Magnetic vs Paper Bookmarks: Which Should You Buy?
Share
Most readers start with whatever slip of paper is lying around, then move to a proper bookmark. The two main choices are magnetic bookmarks and classic paper bookmarks. Both do the job, but they suit different readers. Here's a plain comparison to help you pick, or choose one as a gift.
What is a magnetic bookmark?
A magnetic bookmark is a small folded strip with a thin magnet inside each half. You fold it over the page and the two sides grip the paper from the front and back. Our standard magnetic bookmarks are about 2 cm wide and 6.2 cm tall when folded, small enough to sit neatly on the edge of a page.

What is a paper bookmark?
A paper bookmark is a flat card you slip between the pages. It's longer, so it sticks out from the top of the book and is easy to spot on a shelf. Paper bookmarks usually come in larger sets, which makes them good for sharing.

| Magnetic bookmark | Paper bookmark | |

| Marks the exact spot | Can be clipped right next to the line you stopped at | Marks the page only |
| Easy to find on a shelf | Small, so it sits on the page edge | Sticks out from the top of the book |
| Works in planners and diaries | Yes, and it's handy for marking today's page | Yes |
| Set sizes | Usually sets of 6 or 12 | Larger sets of 10, 14 or even 28 |

Can't decide? Get both
Many readers keep a magnetic bookmark in the book they carry around and paper bookmarks in the books waiting on the shelf. If you're buying a gift, a magnetic set is the safer pick for a regular reader, while a big paper set is great for families and students.
